The Lady Dragons recovered from their 48-43 loss to Abington in the Scituate Christmas Tournament by blowing away New Bedford (67-27) and Pembroke to raise their record to 5-1.

Pembroke provided little resistance in its 69-19 drubbing at the hands of Duxbury, as they were out-scored by the hosts to the tune of 15-2 in the first quarter with Michela North (6) and Bridget Quilty (3) doing most of the damage inside.

Coach Bob Sullivan was able to go to his bench frequently in this Patriot League game, as sophomore Jamie Cross opened the second quarter with a basket. When Jackie Sullivan followed with a three-point play, the Lady Dragons had a commanding 20-2 lead.

North continued to do damage inside and sophomore Maddie Foote nailed a three-pointer to put Duxbury up 30-7. After the Titans put two points on the board, Duxbury went on a nine-point run with Sullivan hitting a pair of baskets and Katie Norton ending the first half with a three-point bomb for a 39-9 lead.

It only got worse for the visitors in the second half, as the Lady Dragons scored the first 15 points to make it 54-9, prompting Coach Sullivan to make a wholesale substitution with 3:38 left in the quarter.

The Titans got hot over the final three minutes with six points. But freshman Emma Gill showed she will be a force in years to come, if not now, as she torched Pembroke for 10 points over an eight-minute span that extended into the final quarter.

By now the lead was up to 67-15 before junior Haley Mclaughlin sank the final Duxbury basket.

Duxbury had great distribution in the scoring column for the night led by North’s 16 points and Norton’s 13. Foote also hit double figures with 11, along with Gill’s 10. Sullivan finished with nine points.

In the win over Division 1 New Bedford, senior captain Bridget Quilty led the way with 16 points.

After travelling to Scituate last night for a big Patriot League battle, the team will head off to North Quincy on Friday night to take on the Red Raiders at  6:30 p.m.
