COASTAL REPORT:  Striper fishing remains good to excellent – tuna fishing is just getting started. With this hot weather (thank you Mr. or Ms. Weatherperson) fishing should turn on now. Around the Cape Cod back beaches at Peaked Hill Bar stripers are heading north and fishing remains really good here. Out in deeper water off Peaked Hill Bar tuna fishing is mostly slow, but soon the action will be red hot. Best baits here for stripers are live mackerel or wire line jigging.

Pollock can be found at or near the bottom and Sibiki Rigs work great on them. Inside the Plymouth and Duxbury Bay area striper fishing is red hot most of the time. Best areas are Brown’s Bank, Bug Light, Clark’s Island and the Powder Point Bridge area but don’t forget the Cordage Channel or Warren’s Cove.

The Cordage Channel is also giving up some really nice flounder. Any day now bluefish will arrive in the Bay and fishing will get even better. Outside the Gurnet at Plymouth near the rocks, striper fishing is good. Over at the High Pines Ledge, striper fishing has turned on and blues have arrived. I fished here with Captain Erik on For Days Out II and Steve and Kevin Heath for the Duncan Frazee Memorial Striped Bass Tournament and young Kevin landed his personal record best -- a 41-inch striper on a live mackerel. It took second place in the tournament. Kevin also released many 30-inch stripers to be caught another day. Great job, Kevin!

At the jetties at Green Harbor fishing for stripers has been good. Best time is real early in the morning at incoming tides and after dark. Best baits here are live mackerel fished on light colored balloons fitted with a small pen light inside so the lines can be seen at dark. Just outside the jetties the flounder fishing doesn’t get any better than right now.

Fishing in Bluefish Cove is good for stripers. Find a good rock pile and use a live mackerel. Lots of keeper stripers are being landed here. The Farnham Rock area is a good place to jig up some live mackerel or harbor pollock on Sibiki Rigs. Over at the mouth of the North and South rivers striper fishing remains good with lots of stripers from 28 to 34 inches and an occasional 40-inch fish.

On early morning or late tides fishing up in the North River is good. Fish can be caught all the way up the river to the Union Street Bridge. Fishing in the South River has been good at high water. Shankas in Glow Green or Bubble Gum have been working along with live mackerel. Outside the river fishing off the Cliffs has been good with 4th Cliff being the hot spot. There are lots of mackerel off the North River bell over to the Scituate bell out to 70 feet of water.

Be careful with the hot weather. Be sure to use plenty of sunscreen and drink lots of cold liquids.
