Girls Stay Undefeated in The Pool

Even though it is nearly the end of the season, the girls’ swim team kicked it up a notch and swam past Scituate/Cohasset, scoring their eighth victory, 106-75, last Tuesday at Percy Walker Pool. While Duxbury won by a large margin, the races were much closer than the score reflected. Leading off the meet were Katelyn Coghlan, Emily Hutchinson, Andrea Strand and Kaitlin Buckley in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome raced stroke for stroke with their opponents, but won the battle by less than _ second (2:03.62). The team of Hillary Dudley, Lauren Wilson, Alix Brady and Maggie Hickey finished a strong third.

Sarah Goldberg was a double-event winner and turned in two personal-best times. The freshman swam a 58.75 State-qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle, tying Hutchinson for the win. Goldberg also cruised to a 2:07.86 sectional time in the 200-yard freestyle.  Coghlan took second in a State-qualifying time (2:10.06) and Molly Davis placed third to make Sectionals (2:12.72).

Buckley won two more events for the Lady Dragons, sprinting to a 1:05.09 win in the 100-yard butterfly, and leading the way in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.56).

Senior co-captains Liz Antaya and Andrea Strand faced off in the 200-yard individual medley, but Antaya took first with an extra effort on the last lap (2:29.97). Not to be outdone, Strand powered to first in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by 3/10 of a second (1:17.28).{sidebar id=1}

Hutchinson sprinted to first in the 50-yard freestyle (26.10), erasing a half second off her previous best, just ahead of teammates Dudley and Hickey.

Coghlan glided to a first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.19) and Kelsey O’Neal took third.

Sophomore Hadley Burnham was the top Duxbury finisher in a very competitive diving event (157.58), just nipping out teammates Sam Collins (153.38) and Paige Jackson (134.10).

In other action, Antaya, Davis, Goldberg and Gaby Pipp combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Dragons will host Silver Lake on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in their final regular season meet.
