For the Dragon grapplers, the road to the championship had to go through #16 ranked Marshfield, but not before a tough opening round victory over Whitman Hanson.      With the score 19-18 in favor of W-H, Duxbury got three consecutive pins from sophomore John McGeady (160), and juniors Tyler Genereux (171), and Kyle Gavoni (189) to seal the win with two matches to go.spo-wrestle.jpg

The 36-22 win put the Duxbury team in the winner's bracket, and set the stage for a re-match with the Rams who beat the Dragons last year by one point. Duxbury's Justin Carroll (119) got things started for the hosts with a third period pin, but the match of the day came in the 125 lb. weight class with Zach Sanchez facing Marshfield's best wrestler in 5th ranked Joe Pronk (119).  Sanchez got the first takedown, and brought the Duxbury bench to their feet before Pronk got a 2-point reversal to tie the score.  A Sanchez escape gave him a one-point advantage, but Pronk reclaimed the lead with another takedown. However, it was clear from the start that Pronk had his hands full despite a 7-5 lead heading into the third and final period.  The Ram grappler put Sanchez on his back halfway through the third period, and got the pin, but the match fueled the Dragons, and set the tone the rest of the way.

Sophomore Robert Kates (130) registered the first of three Duxbury pins, and junior Colin McKenzie knocked off 6th ranked Brandon Fleming who was hoping to avenge an earlier loss this season to McKenzie, but the Dragon grappler outlasted the Ram grappler for an 8-5 win.{sidebar id=1}

Also winning for Duxbury were senior captain Aaron Haight (145), Johnny Barrett (152), and John McGeady (160). Tim Donoghue earned 5 points with a 15-0 tech of his Marshfield opponent, and Genereux (171) and Gavoni (189) pinned for the second time.

Duxbury senior captain Stefan Seman (130) led the way against a strong Catholic Memorial team in the finals with a first period pin.  Also pinning for Duxbury was McKenzie who won all three of his matches along with teammates John Barrett, Tim Donoghue, and Tyler Genereux who won by technical fall, and did not give up a point in all three of his matches.

The Duxbury wrestlers traveled to Hingham on Monday for the final league match of the season before sectionals, but the results were not available at press time.
