The South Shore Nets, a local 7th-grade AAU basketball team, made it to the finals in the 2012 Massachusetts AAU State Championship tournament last month at Bridgewater-Raynham High School and Bridgewater State University. The team is comprised of players from Duxbury, Hanover, Weymouth, Braintree, and North Quincy. The players include Matt Kelly (Duxbury), Drew Kelly (Duxbury), Nick Gearin (Duxbury) Caleb Good (Hanover), Shea Farricy (Hanover), Luke Dagley (Weymouth), Brett Jamieson (Weymouth), Aidan Conboy (Braintree), and Will Phelan (North Quincy). The Nets have been on quite a roll, winning 8 of 10 games. Two weeks ago, the SS Nets placed second in the Cape Cod Eclipse “Spring Blast” in Barnstable, Massachusetts. The highlight of the weekend was a wild and physical 46-44 victory over the Cape Cod Eclipse in which Gearin scored 24 points. The Nets continued their roll last week, coming in second in the Zero Gravity State Championship at Bridgewater State University. They defeated four excellent teams to make it to the championship game where they fell to the Shooting Stars from the Worcester and western Massachusetts area. By making the finals, the South Shore Nets qualified for the “Zero Gravity” National Championship tournament which takes place at several Massachusetts colleges and universities next weeks. |
