Wheaton College outfielder John Keating (DHS ’07) advanced to the Division III College World series with a 2-0 win over Western New England on Sunday in Mansfield, Conn. The Lyons (38-9) will face Webster University, winners of the Central Region, on Friday at 11 a.m. EST in Grand Chute, Wis. Earlier this season, Wheaton defeated the Gorloks, 1-0, in Auburndale, Florida… Bowdoin College and designated hitter Danny Findley (Roxbury Latin ’09) had their season ended by St. Joseph’s and catcher Joe Coyne (DHS ’11) last Wednesday in the opening round of the NCAA Division III baseball playoffs. Findley was the only Polar Bear to get two hits and started the ninth inning by singling to give Bowdoin some hope in their 2-0 loss, while Coyne singled in three plate appearances. St. Joseph’s advanced and was eventually ousted by Western New England, 4-0… Sophomore Jake Harvey (DHS ’09) and his Colgate University lacrosse team were knocked out of the NCAA D1 tournament by Duke on Sunday, 17-6, in the quarterfinals… Junior Quinn Cully (DHS ’09) was credited with 2 groundballs in Notre Dame’s 12-10 win over defending national champion, Virginia, sending the Fighting Irish to the NCAA Division 1 semifinals this weekend at Gillette Stadium... |
