The Lady Dragons saw their five-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt last Monday when they dropped a 10-1 decision to division leader Middleboro in Duxbury.

Duxbury came into the contest at 8-1 and hung close, trailing the Sachems 1-0 through three innings. The visitors’ bats exploded in the fourth inning for four runs on just two hits, opening the floodgates for five more runs in the seventh, as the usually reliable Duxbury defense and pitching faltered. Junior catcher Caroline McSherry continued her red-hot hitting with a pair of hits, adding to her Patriot League leading average of .621.

After rain washed out a critical Patriot League game with Silver Lake on Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Dragons travelled to North Quincy on Friday.

Duxbury had beaten the Red Raiders, 12-0, earlier in the season, but this contest would prove to be a lot closer in the Lady Dragons’ 5-4 victory.

Duxbury jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead when junior outfielder Alex Leaverton drew a walk and scored on a single by junior shortstop Christina Curley.

North Quincy came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first and the game remained that way until the top of the fifth when Duxbury added three runs on a single by junior co-captain Erin Gallagher and a home-run blast to deep center by Curley.

The hosts would add a run in the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game.

In the seventh, Curley, McSherry and sophomore Brianna Connolly would all single to load the bases. Sophomore Caitlin Turok hit a sacrifice fly to score the winning run.

Junior pitcher Micaela Lannon held off the Red Raiders in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win. All of North Quincy’s four runs were unearned and Lannon bettered her record to 9-2 with a season-high 16 strikeouts, including one sequence of seven in a row.

Lannon and the Lady Dragons will get a big test this week when they play four games in four days, continuing with back-to-back home games on Wednesday afternoon with Silver Lake for a possible share of the Patriot League crown, followed by a home confrontation with Whitman-Hanson on Thursday.
