It was an extremely tight game through three and a half innings, as neither team crossed the plate until the Dragons came to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After an error and a sacrifice moved a runner to second base, freshman Cam Walsh stroked a double to drive in what eventually proved to be the winning run. Justin Marino followed with an RBI single and the floodgates opened, as Brendan Connolly walked and senior Aidan Garrity followed with a two-RBI single. Junior James Marcello would end the inning with an RBI single for the fifth Duxbury run and a comfortable margin for Jacobson to work with.

Jacobson faced just four Pembroke batters in the fifth and four more in the sixth before his teammates exploded for four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with Connolly leading off with a walk and Garrity reaching on an error.

Junior Pat Buell pinch ran for Connolly and eventually stole third, coming around to score with Garrity right behind on a single by catcher Robbie Johnson. A Marcello single, a double by freshman Mike Callandar, and a sacrifice fly by junior Joe Guilfoile would plate the final two runs for the Dragons, as they advanced their record to 4-2 in Patriot League play.

“We’ve got a lot of underclassmen on this team. It’s a good group that has an awesome attitude in practice and they are playing hard. When Sam is pitching we always have a chance,” said Coach Gordon Cushing. “Sam’s record is now 3-2 and his ERA was .81 before he gave up that run. We haven’t been scoring  a lot of runs, but it seems we are running into everyone’s No. 1 pitcher. Tonight we faced another No. 1 pitcher and we won. It was a good win for us.”

After a tough match-up with Hingham on Monday, the team will travel to Hanover on Wednesday afternoon to face the Indians at 4 p.m.
