Boys’ tennis ready for Hingham
By Mike Halloran

The Duxbury boys’ tennis team is on a hot streak after winning four matches in a row following their only loss of the season to Cape Cod Academy.

Wins over Scituate (4-1), North Quincy (5-0), and Pembroke (5-0) punctuated a busy week and left the Dragons with a 5-1 record, as they started this week by facing perennial Patriot League foe Hingham on Monday afternoon on the road.

Duxbury’s win over Scituate improved its record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League. Despite the windy conditions, senior Peter Muncey played excellent in a 6-2/6-3 victory over Greg Louge at No. 1 singles, while senior Connor O’Keefe also won his second singles match 6-0/6-4 against Harry Bertoni.

Duxbury played just as well in their doubles matches with senior Erik Schneider and freshman Freddie Clifford’s team work and chemistry allowing them to take a 6-4/6-2 win at first doubles against Joe Koelsh and Mike O’Donahue. The junior duo of Will Triebel and Kevin Coakley won 6-0/6-4 at second doubles against Aaron Krell and Matt Kuklis.

The lone loss of the day was sophomore Harry Sohmer at third singles, who lost to Matt Louge in a close two-set match, 6-4/6-4.

After travelling to North Quincy and pinning a 5-0 shutout on the Red Raiders on Wednesday, the Dragons returned home on Thursday to face the Pembroke Titans and pulled off another shutout win.

Muncey blanked Pembroke’s Ryan Goodman, 6-0/6-0 and O’Keefe was equally proficient in dispatching Ryan Tressel, 6-1/6-0.

Clifford easily took care of Scotty Allen, 6-0/6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Schneider and Coakley had little trouble with Zack Cavalier and Tyler Hale, 6-2/6-0, while the second doubles tandem of Steve Kravitz and Will Kingsbury beat Pete Connor and Colin Montogomery, 6-1/6-0.

Coach John Bunar’s club will travel on Wednesday afternoon to Hanover to take on the Indians for a 3:30 p.m. match.
