The Duxbury girls’ softball team won its second game in a row with a hard fought 4-3 win over Plymouth North last Monday behind the pitching of junior Micaela Lannon, who struck out 13 in a complete victory.

After being down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, junior Christina Curley led off with a home run and Caroline McSherry followed with a double and scored when she was brought home by a single from sophomore Brianna Connolly. Plymouth North tied the game in the sixth inning on back-to-back hits, but Duxbury came right back in the bottom of the sixth inning when Curley and McSherry started a rally with back- to-back hits. Caitlin Turok laid a suicide squeeze bunt to score Curley and senior Madi Duddy followed with a sacrifice fly for the game-winning RBI.

Playing their second game in four days, the Dragons faced a Quincy team that featured one of the dominant pitchers in the Patriot League. The game turned out to be a pitchers’ duel with Lannon hurling for Duxbury. Quincy opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs on two hits and a walk. The Lady Dragons came back with two runs in the fifth on consecutive hits by juniors Lindsey Cobb, Alex Leaverton, and Erin Gallagher. In the sixth inning Connolly led off with a bunt single and promptly stole second. Turok drove her in with a single.

It was a great comeback win for Rod Lanewski’s squad with timely hitting and another 13-strikeout performance by Lannon.

Duxbury would travel to Kingston on Thursday to face its main Patriot League rival, Silver Lake. Duxbury scored first in the third inning on a single by Duddy and a long double by Leaverton. Silver Lake tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but Duxbury threathened in the 4th and 5th innings but scored only one run.

With the score tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Silver Lake managed to string a few hits together to push the score to 5-2. Duxbury ended up on the short end in a closer game than the score.

Now sporting a 3-1 record, Duxbury has a week off for spring break before they return to action next Monday when they travel to Scituate.
