Amherst College senior captain Mike Baran (Thayer ’08) has been nominated by The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston as one of 18 semi-finalists for the 12th annual Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the Division II/Division III level. The Gridiron Club plans to announce the finalists and winner of the award in March, just prior to the start of the Frozen Four, and will present the award during the New England Hockey Writers dinner in mid-April… Senior Sean McCarthy (Roxbury Latin ’08) and his Trinity College hockey team had its season end in a 4-3 loss to Williams in the opening round of the NESCAC hockey tournament on Saturday… Junior Mark Brust (DHS ’09) and his Bates College basketball team were eliminated by No. 2 nationally ranked Amherst, 97-74, in the semifinals of the NESCAC basketball championships on Saturday in Amherst. Brust scored 10 points in the loss… Sophomore Caitlyn Buckley (DHS ’10) was a member of the Bryant University record-breaking 400m freestyle relay team that won the title at the 2012 NEC swimming championships on Saturday at MIT… Senior Gus Quinzani (DHS ’08) scored a goal in St. Joseph’s season-opening loss to Lehigh… Senior defenseman Erin Levesque (DHS ’08) registered a groundball in UNH’s 13-7 loss to Dartmouth to open the 2012 season… Senior Chris Casey (DHS ’08) had an assist in Sacred Heart’s 11-9 loss to Hofstra to open the season… Notre Dame junior Quinn Cully (DHS ’09) and his Fighting Irish lacrosse team knocked off Duke, 7-3, in their season-opener in South Bend last week. This past weekend Cully scored his first collegiate goal to give ND a 1-0 lead, but they couldn’t hold on and suffered a 4-3 OT loss to Penn State… Junior Derek Sweet (DHS ’08) had a goal in Lynchburg’s 21-4 season-opening rout of Birmingham Southern… Freshman Christian Connolly (DHS ’11) and his Ohio Wesleyan lacrosse team defeated Concordia, 17-5, in their season-opener on Saturday… Freshman Siobhan McCarthy (DHS ’11) is starting in the midfield for the B.U. women’s lacrosse team… Freshman Olivia McCarthy (DHS ’11) is a member of the Iona University women’s lacrosse team… Freshman Jake Wong (DHS ’11) is an outfielder on the United States Air Force Academy baseball team… Freshman Jess Williams (DHS ’11) is a member of the Loyola University (NO) track team… |
