The Duxbury girls’ swimming and diving team is enjoying the week off after increasing its lead in the Patriot League with wins over Hingham, Scituate and Cohasset last week to remain undefeated with a 9-0 record. Defeating Hingham last Tuesday was a fitting way to cap off the seniors’ final home meet. After a tribute to the graduating seniors, the diving portion got underway, as Kelsey Golden scored 194.85 points to walk away with the gold, while Sam Tougas placed third with 165.23 and Avery Pisani finished fourth with 133.88. The medley relay team of Mary O’Sullivan, Emily Nichols, Ellie Johnson and Shelby Rader grabbed first place with a Division II State-qualifying time of 2:03.58. Juniors Johnson and Rader would both go on to take first in other events as well to qualify for States. Johnson flew to a 1:05.90 in the 100-yd. butterfly; her best of the season. Completing the sweep in the fly for the Lady Dragons were Hannah Riddle (2nd) and Aly Wolff (3rd). The 100-yard freestyle was yet another Duxbury sweep, as Rader placed first (58.23), Jess Goldberg took second and O’Sullivan finished third. Sophomores Miranda VanDingstee, Hannah Hutchinson and Nichols also won their respective events; VanDingstee swam a season-low time (2:32.23) in the 200 IM, joined by Jill Coghlan (2nd) and Haley Chatlin (5th). Hutchinson sped to a blistering 27.40 in the 50 freestyle, just ahead of co-captain Laura Husted (2nd) and Cari Librett (3rd). Not to be out-done by her classmates, Nichols would dive in to take first in the 100-yd. breaststroke with McKenzie Bright (2nd) and Annie Sweeney (6th) following her to the wall. The 100-yd. backstroke had Krista Librett swim a season-low 1:10.77 to take second, being out-touched by less than a second with Coghlan (3rd) and Sarah Caso (5th) also swimming the event. VanDingstee (6:00.93) returned to the pool to swim the 500 freestyle and take second, while Elizabeth Buckley (3rd) and co-captain Kassie Sweeney (4th) also scored points in the 20-length race. Abby Mullen (2:11.57) stroked her way to a second-place finish in the 200-yd. freestyle followed by Olivia Zelvis (3rd) and Nichols (4th). The Lady Dragons hope to keep their winning streak alive as they head to Middleboro next week to take on the Sachems. |
