The Duxbury boys’ swim team boosted its record to 6-0 last week with huge wins over Barnstable (87-80) and Norwell (88-62).  

The Raiders gave the Dragons their closest and most exciting meet of the season last Tuesday with the score 77-76 heading into the last event.  The Dragons prevailed however, as the 400-yard freestyle team of Ian Wilson, Stephen Tonaszuck, Mike Connolly and Arthur Su took first in typical fashion. Wilson, Tonaszuck and Connolly all recorded season-best times as well

Wilson and Tonaszuck would win both of their individual events as well. Wilson took first in his signature events: the 100-yard fly (58.37) and backstroke (1:01.92).  Co-captain Ben Zelvis (4th) and Edgar (5th) joined him in the pool for the butterfly and John Coakley (4th) and Stephen Kravitz (6th) also swam the backstroke. 

Tonaszuck, demonstrating his versatility, dominated the 500 and 50-yard freestyle events.  He cruised to a season-low state qualifying time of 5:14.51 in the distance event with Ng and Keelan Murphy finishing in third and sixth, respectively. In the 50-yard sprint he zoomed to a speedy 24:57 ahead of James Mattes (5th) and Drew Lawrence (6th). Co-captain Arthur Su captured first in his favorite event, the 100-yard breaststroke, gliding to a swift 1:09.27. Kravitz and Jared Amadio took fourth and fifth.

Thursday’s meet against Norwell proved an easier time for the Dragons who recorded seven individual firsts, as well as a season-low medley relay time of 1:50.19. Mike Tougas led the Duxbury divers in their home pool to take first with 137.03 points, while Ryan Scanlon was second with 102.8. 

After placing second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.33), Su came back for the 100 breaststroke and stroked his way to first (1:11.19).  Right behind him in the 200 free were Peter Emmett (4th) and John Coakley (5th), while joining him to sweep the breaststroke event were Tonaszuck (2nd) and Kravitz (3rd). 

Connolly and Wilson each posted two first-place finishes against the Clippers, with Connolly capturing the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events, while Wilson won the 100-yard fly and 500-yard freestyle. Connolly sped to a 23.79 in the sprint event, well ahead of the competition.  Touching the wall behind him were Kravitz (2nd) and Matt Griffin (4th). Joining him later in the backstroke was John Coakley, who took third in the event.  Wilson, splashing his way to a season-low state-qualifying time of 57.04 in the butterfly, also endured the 20-length 500 freestyle, posting a season-best time of 5:06.78.  Also competing for the Dragons were Brady (4th) and Edgar (5th). 

After hosting Hingham on Tuesday, the Dragons now head to Quincy on Thursday to take on Scituate/Cohasset.
