Dragons win second straight Super Bowl title
By Mike Halloran
Wednesday, December 28, 2011 10:00 AM

The Duxbury Dragon football team won its 26th consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, demolishing Merrimack Valley league champion Tewksbury HS, 35-0, to win its second consecutive Super Bowl title and its third in the last four years. Led by senior QB Matt O’Keefe’s three TD passes and a smothering defense led by captains Max Randall, Reilly Naton, and James Burke, the Dragons dominated play throughout the first half, building a 7-0 first quarter lead and scoring three more times in the second quarter to blow the game wide open by halftime.

While Coach Dave Maimaron’s offense continued to impress with its pro-style passing game and effective running game, it was Coach Harry Taylor’s defense that came up huge once again with its second consecutive playoff shutout.

“Our defense has done this all year,” said Maimaron, after his team registered its sixth shutout in 13 games, including three in the last five games. “We always want to start fast and we were able to do that today. The defense caused a couple of turnovers that were huge and we capitalized on them.”

Maimaron was also quick to praise the Duxbury community for its support during the year and for the great turnout at Gillette.

“It’s awesome. All you have to do is look up in those stands and you see it,” said the winning coach. “It’s every day. When we leave the town everyone is out front of their houses beeping and waving. These are great kids and they deserve the support, and they support the community in return. It’s just an awesome thing.”
