Girls’ track loses to Panthers

The Duxbury girls’ indoor track team lost to Whitman-Hanson, 77-23, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston last Tuesday night.

Senior Emily Doyle came in first in the 55m and qualified for States with a time of: 7.81 (qualify time is 7.84), and also won the 300m, qualifying for States with a time of  42.60 (qualify time of 44.94) Junior Laura Nee came in second in the 1000m and qualified for States with a time of 3:19 (qualify time is 3:23 min). Nee had already qualified for States in the 600m with a time of 1.46.6 (qualify time is 1:48min).

Lauren Bittrich came in second at the mile with a time of 5:50 (best this season), while Julie Weiss ran a 6:42 and Jackie Hanrahan ran a 6:48.

Besides Doyle’s first-place finish in the 55m, Nee came in third with a time of 8.07, along with Duxbury finishers Taylor Lovett (8.75 sec), Meghan MacKinnon (9.15 sec) and Michelle Meier (9.36 sec).

W-H took the first three place in the 55m hurdles, followed by MacKinnon, Sydney King and Meghan Sarles, who had times of 11.39, 11.76, and 13.43, respectively.

In the 300m after Doyle’s win, King ran a 52.0 and Meier finished in 54.5 sec.

W-H took the top three spots in the two-mile with Bittrich finishing in 12:53 and sister, Caroline, running a 14:42.

In field events, W-H came in first in the high jump, followed by Doyle (4’-9”) and Nee (4’-1”). The Panthers took first and third in the long jump, while Doyle placed second (4.37m). Lovett jumped 3.58m and King jumped 3.53m. Caroline Bittrich threw 6.20m, Emily Mutkoski threw 5.65m and Julie threw 5.25m, but it wasn’t good enough to top Whitman-Hanson that captured the first three spots in the shot put.
