The DHS boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Patriot League All-League championships at Middleboro High School on Friday afternoon. It was a cold and dry day on the 3.1-mile Middleboro course (a 5K).

The boys placed sixth out of nine teams with 169 points, while Whitman-Hanson took home the title. Senior captain Jason Angell ran his best race of the season, as he finished in fourth place with a time of 16:31, 37 seconds behind Hingham High School winner Mike McConville. Junior Alec Stewart also ran his best race of the season with a time of 18:53 to finish 39th. Freshman Tate Allen and Craig Feeney worked together, both running great times, with Allen placing 50th in a time of 19:02 (6:07 pace) and Feeney taking 52nd with a time of 19:03 (6:08 pace). Freshman Kevin O’Rourke and junior Liam MacDonald ran their best 5k times as well, as O’Rourke took 69th with a time of 20:12 and MacDonald placed 82nd in 21:36 (6:57). Freshman Jake O’Connor finished 85th (23:06), followed by senior Keelan Murphy and freshman Peter Gandt. Murphy placed 86th with a time of 23:27 and Gandt placed 88th in a time of 23:53.

Next Saturday the Dragon’s will run at the Coach’s Invitational in Wrentham, but Angell will be saving his legs for the following week’s MIAA State Divisional Meet at Franklin Park where he will try to qualify for the MIAA All-State Meet.

On the girls’ side senior Lauren Bittrich was the team’s top runner in 31st place with a time of 21:47 that led her team to a ninth-place finish. The race winner was Pembroke’s Chelsea Savage with a time of 18:41.

Senior Kara O’Leary finished in 41st place (23:15), senior captain Caroline Manning finished 63rd (24:14), junior Caroline Bittrich ended up in 64th place in 24:16, with sophomore Jackie Hanrahan being timed in 24:55.
