Girls’ soccer hopes to extend streak
Wednesday, October 26, 2011 11:34 AM

By the time you read this article, the Lady Dragons’ 13-game unbeaten streak could be a thing of the past or extended to 15 games after playing Pembroke.

A 3-0 victory over North Quincy last Tuesday pushed Duxbury’s record to 10-1-2, after which they tied Hingham for the second time this season in a 1-1 deadlock.

Having easily taken care of North Quincy in their first meeting (4-0) in late September, it was surprising that the Red Raiders could hold the Lady Dragons to a 0-0 halftime score.

But two second-half goals from sophomore midfielder Emily Weimer and a single tally from junior Tina Balzotti blew the game wide open and supported the shutout effort of junior keeper Heather Dorn.

Weimer continued to have the hot foot against Hingham, as her early second-half goal looked like it would stand up until Hingham’s Carly Baggott tied it at 1-1 late in the game.

It’s a busy week for the Lady Dragons, who tried to wrap up the Patriot League title on Monday when they took on Whitman-Hanson. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons they return home to face Pembroke and Scituate, respectively, at 4 p.m.
