Michela North’s 16 kills and 13 service points, along with 21 service points from Cara Vetsch, led the Duxbury girls’ volleyball team to a three-set win over Rockland (25-6, 25-7, 25-9)  last Thursday in Duxbury.

Shannon McLaughlin and Christina Curley played great defense in the shutout win.

After evening its record at 6-6, the Lady Dragons took on Pembroke two days later and looked like they were on their way to an easy win after taking a two-set lead (25-18 and 32-30), only to see the Titans rally and win the next two sets (25-15 and 25-17).

In the fifth game Caroline McSherry turned the heat up with two service aces, giving Duxbury momentum to take the rubber match, 15-12. All the Duxbury players fought hard and played well consistently, with Curley, sophomore Caitlin Turok and McSherry performing outstanding defensively with 25, 15, and 15 digs, respectively.

Setter Kelly Dame, who continues to improve, showed she will be a real threat at the net, along with middle hitters North and Bridget Quilty. The pair had 15 kills, while Dame had three of her own.

On Wednesday night the team will travel to Quincy for a 5:30 p.m. match with the perennial powerhouse Presidents before returning home on Friday to take on Whitman-Hanson.
