| Dragons lose on penalty kick |

The boys’ soccer team had its unbeaten streak broken last Wednesday afternoon on a penalty kick, when it dropped a 1-0 decision to Patriot League favorite, Hingham. Riding a five-game unbeaten streak during which they scored 15 goals after going without a score in the first two games of the season, the Dragons (4-2-2) had their chances, but couldn’t dent the Hingham net. “It was a very frustrating loss because we still don’t know what the call was that gave Hingham a penalty kick,” said Coach John Tocci. “All I know is that we cleared the ball away, and the next thing I see is the referee putting the ball down for a penalty kick.” Despite the closeness of the game, Tocci admitted his team was lucky to get out of the first half with a scoreless tie. “We were getting bombarded in the first 15 minutes by Hingham’s forwards. We just couldn’t get any kind of possession going and we had horrible touches in the midfield.” Brian Blanchard’s goal midway through the second half was the game-winner for Hingham, while Duxbury goalie Justin Marino continued his impressive season-long performance in net. “I can now say that we don’t fear anyone,” said Tocci. “We just don’t have that fear of getting bombarded any more, and we feel like we are never out of any game.” The next two weeks should be huge for Duxbury, as they take on Silver Lake (5-1-1) next Thursday, followed by games with Marshfield and Hingham seven days later. “We’ve had some great chances in all our games, but it just seems like we run into goalkeepers who have been making incredible saves. Let’s hope we qualify for the tournament in the next two weeks.” Earlier in the week the Dragons got goals from Chase Mohrman, Cam Mullins, and Adam Fitzgerald in a 3-1 win over Pembroke. |
