The Lady Dragon volleyball team put a scare into perennial powerhouse Quincy High School last Monday afternoon when they took the first set of their Patriot League match, 25-20, before falling in three straight sets to the Presidents, 18-25, 23-25, 14-25.

Christina Curley led with 10 game points, followed by freshman Cara Vetsch with 8. Michela North continued to display her all-around game and is developing as a force at the net, while Kelly Dame is progressing nicely as the setter, directing the team offense, with Bridget Quilty up front and the rock-solid Caroline McSherry in the back row.

Things went much better against Whitman-Hanson, despite losing the first set 22-25. Duxbury came back strong to win the match 25-15, 25-14, 25-23.

Curley led the way once again with 17 points, while Dame matched her impressive total. North showed her versatility on both sides of the net with 16 points, 17 kills and 5 blocked shots.

Nikki Vetsch helped the Dragons with her strong net play at MB in the crucial fourth-game showdown that ended with the Dragons winning, 25-23.

“Each game the girls’ play adds experience in their bank,” said first-year Coach Pam Thomas. “All of the girls are strong athletes, quick learners and fierce competitors. We are having a lot of fun this year and gaining the experience necessary to be long standing competitors in the future.”
