Sometimes the effort is there, but the results don’t automatically come with them.

That was the case early last week as the Lady Dragons lost a 1-0 decision to the Harborwomen in Hingham.

“The effort was there, but we just couldn’t finish around the net,” said Coach Pam Manley. “I think we outshot them 25-6, but we couldn’t get one of them to go in.”

Dominating play for most of the afternoon, Duxbury’s frustration grew as Hingham scored on one of its few chances with 4:30 left in the game for what proved to be the game-winner.

It was a rough start to a 10-day span that promised to be one of the season’s toughest stretches.

Hanover came to town on Wednesday for its traditional Patriot League rivalry with Duxbury and looked nothing like the perennial South Shore power they have been, as the Lady Dragons dominated first-half play and kept the ball in their offensive zone for most of the opening 15 minutes.

It took just over six minutes for Duxbury to take the lead, as senior captain Cory Connolly took a feed from sophomore defenseman Ally Hammell in front of the net to beat Hanover goalkeeper Katherine Alfano.

At the 17:38 mark of the half, junior Hannah Murphy tallied the first of her three goals, tipping home a Hammell shot and providing Duxbury with an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead.

Duxbury had nine penalty corners in the first half; evidence of its domination in the offensive zone.

Eight minutes into the second half Murphy was at it again, as she outraced the Hanover defense and went in alone on an empty Indians net for a 3-0 lead. She would finish off the scoring with her second hat-trick of the season that gave the Lady Dragons a convincing 4-0 win.

Duxbury entertained Silver Lake in its third league game of the week and handed the Lakers a 5-0 beating.

Connolly was the big gun in this win, as she tallied three goals and Hammell registered two more assists in the win.

Senior Molly Zaverucha and sophomore Lily Smith also scored.

Jumping out to a 4-0 halftime lead made life easier for Manley.

“We controlled the field for most of the game, and even when we had our subs in with the regulars the passing was excellent. I think the thing we need to work on is having our forwards be more accurate with their shots,” said Manley

It’s another busy week for the girls, who hit the road for three games with Notre Dame, Scituate, and Pembroke.
