After getting rained out in its season opener against Silver Lake, the Duxbury girls’ cross-country team opened its season on the road in Scituate last Tuesday afternoon and absorbed a 26-29 loss to the Sailors. Duxbury senior captain Lauren Bittrich was the winner over the 2.8-mile course with a time of 19:12, beating a trio of Scituate runners right behind her. Duxbury senior captain Caroline Manning (22:00) took fifth and senior Kara O’Leary (22:34) took sixth, while Duxbury juniors Emily Mutkoski and Caroline Bittrich finished together in eighth and ninth place (22:52). The other Duxbury finishers were sophomore Rachel Button (23:05), sophomore Jackie Hanrahan (26:09), senior Christine Doherty (27:34) and freshman Rosie Doherty (31:37). This was the first cross-country race for Mutkoski, Hanrahan and Rosie Doherty. |
