| Maimaron gets his just reward |

After losing out on the Globe’s “Coach of the Year” to Concord-Carlisle’s Mike Robichaud, who saw his Patriots manhandled by the Dragons, 35-13, in this year’s Division 2A Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium, Duxbury Coach Dave Maimaron got his just reward by being named the MIAA 2011 “Football Coach of the Year.” A former assistant coach at Everett High School, where his team won two Super Bowl titles in three Division 1A appearances, he went on to become the head coach at Hanover for two years before coming to Duxbury. In his six years at Duxbury, Maimaron has turned the Dragons into a football power, winning three Division 2A Super Bowls with undefeated records of 13-0 in 2005, 2008, and 2010, along with four Patriot League titles. During that span he has accumulated a record of 63-10, and it is expected that his Dragons will be in serious contention to repeat as Super Bowl champs. The selection was a complete surprise to Maimaron, who found out when he arrived at school on Friday that he had been nominated for the award by the efforts of Gridiron Club co-presidents Peter Naton and Chris Naton, along with school administrator Lynne McWilliams, who found out about the award on the MIAA Web site and got the ball rolling. “It’s a great honor for the entire coaching staff, our players and their families, and the whole Duxbury community that supports football. I would like to thank all of them, along with our teachers and administrators, who have been so supportive. It takes all of them to have the quality of program that we have,” Maimaron said. Maimaron, who played football at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and was a defensive back at UMass-Boston for four years will be honored at a banquet at the MIAA headquarters in Franklin on June 2. His selection qualifies him for nomination as the National Federation of High School National Coach of The Year for 2011-2012. |
