Dragons basketball off to a surprising start

The Duxbury boys’ basketball team that was decimated by graduation and transfers has opened its season in surprising fashion, with a three-game winning streak after wins over Nauset (52-43) and Silver Lake (54-44) last week.

With just one returning regular, Coach Gordon Cushing’s young squad has had to hop on the back of junior Curtis Owen for his leadership and scoring punch, as exemplified in the win over the Warriors in which Owen scored 21 points.

Junior forward Justin Marino and senior Connor Kindregan also had big nights for the Dragons, as both players hit for double figures, scoring 12 and 11, respectively.

The trio was equally effective on Friday night in Kingston, when they pinned a loss on the Lakers with Owen torching the hosts for 26 points, and Marino (12) and Kindregan (11) hitting for double figures once again.

On Thursday night the Dragons put their unbeaten streak on the line when they face their toughest opponent to date at 6:30 p.m. the Marshfield Rams
