The Lady Dragons field hockey team saw its 17-game unbeaten streak come to a halt on Friday afternoon when it lost to Marshfield, 2-0, in the regular season finale.
While the loss was disheartening for many of the players, it made little difference in the standings, as Duxbury had already wrapped up the Patriot League title, and is destined to be the No. 2 seed in the MIAA tournament  behind perennial powerhouse Walpole.

Being that high a seed guarantees Duxbury home field advantage throughout the playoffs until they get to the finals.
Coach Pam Manley was worried about Friday’s game, especially in the aftermath of Spirit Day at DHS.
The activities surrounding the Friday of Homecoming weekend tend to get the players all wound up during the school day, and when the day is over, there always seems to be a letdown.
Having already beaten Hanover twice (2-0 and 1-0 for first win in five years on Hanover’s field) during the week after winning the crown, nothing was at stake other than preserving their unblemished record.
“I told the girls no one gets a trophy for going undefeated,” said Manley. “I’d rather lose today than lose in the tournament. I really think we put some undue pressure on ourselves today. Some of the problem was from Spirit Day, but there was also some fatigue involved. We had three tough games this week and they seemed a little tired starting out. We played a good second half with a level of aggressiveness, but that doesn’t always translate into the plays going smoothly.”
Marshfield struck first with seven minutes left in the first half on a goal by Brit Carlson. Five minutes later Carlson would strike again, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead and putting Duxbury in a position it had not faced all year long.
Marshfield goalkeeper Megan Kerens faced 25 Duxbury shots, as the visitors continued to hammer away in the second half trying to get back in the game, but their efforts proved fruitless.
Seedings for the MIAA Tournament were determined on Monday, and the Lady Dragons were named No. 2. They will begin tournament play on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Duxbury against Bridgewater-Raynham.
