Sailors focused on making nationals

The DHS sailing team outlasted Saturday’s horrendous weather on Duxbury Bay to sweep Moses Brown, Manchester Essex, and Dartmouth in two round-robins, winning the regatta, 6-0, and qualifying for the Mark Trophy, symbolic of the New England Team Racing Championship.

The competition will be held at MIT this weekend, with the top two finishers heading to the High School Team Racing Nationals in Seattle, Washington.

Duxbury’s winning team included senior skipper Julia Leonard with junior crew Ian Grant, junior skipper Al Sahne with sophomore crew Brendan Keohan, and sophomore skipper Ian White with senior crew Morgan Gould.

Once the weather subsided, there was a light (8-10 mph) southwest breeze and cloudy skies. After the Dragons won both round-robins the third one did not need to be sailed since it was mathematically impossible for Duxbury to lose after the first two were completed. Moses Brown finished second with a 3-3 record, while Manchester Essex finished third and Dartmouth took fourth.
