The Lady Dragon golf team made it three DHS league championships within a one-hour span last Thursday afternoon when it defeated Falmouth, 4-3, on a Kendall Johnson tiebreaker win.
The victory left Duxbury with an 8-1 record, as they got ready for the Mass Bay League Championships on Monday. It was the eighth straight win for Coach Jack Stoddard’s girls, who finish their regular season schedule on Wednesday afternoon at the DYC course when they host Dennis-Yarmouth. Earlier in the week the Lady Dragons shutout D-Y, 6-0, as Briana Connolly, Colleen O’Connor, and Kara Falcone all won their matches in the top three slots, 3-2. Maria Varonko at #4 won 4 and 2, while Lorin Gerraughty recorded a birdie in her 2-1 win over Lauren O’Shaughnessy at #5. Johnson also won her match to ensure the shutout. Two days later versus Nauset, Duxbury won 4-2, with Nauset’s Rachel Bernstein edging Connolly for medallist honors by shooting a 45. Emma Kellar, back in the #2 slot, won 5 and 4 over Erin McKenne, and was joined in the win column by O’Connor (4 and 3), Falcone (3 and 2) and Gerraughty (5 and 4). Varonko went the distance with Kathryn DiCenso before losing one down. |
