The softball team joined several other DHS teams in qualifying for post-season play last week with a 3-1 win over Pembroke The Lady Dragons would get all the runs they needed in the first inning for Casey Ducinski, as the senior pitcher helped her own cause by leading off with a walk and stealing second. Catcher Alanna Rourke doubled to bring home Ducinski, and would eventually come home herself on a long single by third baseman Kayla McGillivray. Duxbury scored their final run in the fifth inning on a single by Grace Kelso, a Ducinski walk, and an RBI single by Robin Rader. Pembroke rallied for a single run in the top of the seventh inning on a Duxbury error, a fielder’s choice, and a bloop single. However, Ducinski got out of any further trouble for a complete game win in which she struck out 12. Despite no Duxbury hitter having more than one hit, they did display plenty of power by blasting the ball all over the field, with three shots being caught at the fence. The bats stayed hot on Wednesday when the Lady Dragons traveled to Hingham, but this time they fell for hits, as Duxbury unloaded on the Harborwomen with a 17-0 barrage. Junior Laura Walter got the nod on the mound and came through with a 13K complete game shutout to extend Duxbury’s winning streak to seven games. The visitors opened the game with a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Walter and Kim Bond, and followed that with two more runs in the second inning behind singles from Kerri Turok and Kelso and a pair of infield grounders. Duxbury blew it wide open in the top of the fourth with 10 runs, sending 14 batters to the plate on seven hits for a 14-0 lead. Three more runs crossed the plate in the sixth to close out the game. Turok had three hits for the winners, while Kelso had two hits and scored four runs. Now sporting a 12-2 overall record, 9-2 in Patriot League play, the Lady Dragons will play four games this week as they stay on track for next week’s big game with Quincy, which could be for the Patriot League crown. |
