The DHS boys’ tennis team lost its first game of the year last Tuesday afternoon when it dropped a 3-2 decision in Scituate. The Sailors swept all three singles matches, as sophomore Brayden Minahan dropped a 6-2/6-3 decision the Scituate senior Craig Nelson, while freshman Peter Muncey fought two long sets before falling to senior Mike Parker, 6-3/6-4. The #3 singles slot saw Duxbury’s Alex Holopainen lose his first match of the season when he was beaten in three sets after winning the first, 6-2. Junior Jaime Murray came back with a vengeance to win the next two sets, 6-1 and 7-5 for the clincher. Duxbury had no problems in doubles, as the #1 tandem of T.J. Scholberg and Connor Dunphy defeated Cody Farrell and Harry Burton, 6-4/6-3, while the #2 duo of Stephen Day and T.J. Cameron knocked off Zack Gaudreau and Casey Lind, 6-1/6-3. Coach John Bunar shuffled his lineup on Thursday and came away with a 3-2 win over Silver Lake. Scholberg got his shot at #1 singles and came through in fine fashion with a 6-1/7-6 (4) effort to defeat Cory Givens, while his doubles partner moved into the #2 singles slot and walked away with a 6-3/6-3 victory over Laker senior Vic Holt. The pairing of senior Pat Murphy and junior Mike Latorre at #2 doubles wrapped up the win for the Dragons, when they earned a hard-fought 6-4 first-set win and cruised in the second set, 6-1. It’s a busy week for the Dragons, who host Hanover on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., and return on Thursday for another Patriot League match with Middleboro at the same time. |
