Rourke delivers to keep softball unbeaten
Tuesday, April 14, 2009 09:34 AM

Senior catcher Alanna Rourke continues to be a clutch hitter in the middle of the Duxbury softball lineup, as her sixth-inning single drove home the winning run in a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Silver Lake on Thursday afternoon in Kingston.

The victory extends Duxbury’s winning streak to four games, as they got ready for a big week of Patriot League competition with Whitman-Hanson, Hanover and Middleboro.

Duxbury’s Casey Ducinski and Silver Lake’s Kate Stanley battled each other on the mound, with the Lady Dragon lefthander striking out 12 Lakers, while Stanley punched out 10 Duxbury batters.

Rourke started the week by scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 4-0 win over Quincy. Her lead-off triple was bobbled, allowing the Duxbury backstop to beat the thrown home. The Lady Dragons would push three more runs across for insurance.

Ducinski struck out 11 Presidents and allowed just five hits, but her biggest moment came in the top of the sixth when Quincy loaded the bases with nobody out. She proceeded to strike out two batters and induced the other to pop to first to escape the inning.

Laura Walters went 2 for 3 in the win.

The day after Rourke went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI in Duxbury’s 10-5 win over Scituate.

Ducinski threw a two-hitter and fanned nine Sailors, while only walking two, and also aided her own cause with a pair of hits. Robin Rader went 2 for 4 to contribute to the win.

With the scored tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Dragons exploded for eight runs to take a 9-1 lead. Scituate chipped away with three runs in the fifth thanks to some sloppy defensive play by Duxbury, but never got closer.

After this week’s Patriot League action, Duxbury will go back-to-back with Abington over school vacation.
