Due to MIAA regulations the Patriot League only receives one playoff team for their football championships. Currently there are 12 schools within the Patriot League, split into two six-team divisions: Keenan and Fisher. With one week remaining in divisional play, there are six teams still vying for a chance for the one-playoff spot. The Keenan Division has two teams with a chance: Duxbury and Silver Lake. The Lakers travel to Duxbury on Friday (Nov.7) for a 7 p.m. game. The winner will represent the Keenan Division in the Patriot League Championship game. The Fisher Division has four teams with a chance: Hanover, Middleboro, North Quincy and Rockland All four teams are currently 3-1 in divisional play and play each other on the final week of league play, with Hanover traveling to Rockland and Middleboro traveling to North Quincy. The two winners of the game will have already played each other this season. The winner of that early season game will move on to the Patriot League Championship game: The Patriot Bowl. The following week (Nov. 14 and 15) all twelve teams from the Patriot League will play each other with comparable schools from each division playing each other (for example, the fifth place team from the Fisher Division will play the fifth place team from the Keenan Division). Four games will be played on Friday night at two sites. On Saturday, the two remaining games will be played with the Patriot Bowl starting at 7 p.m. that night. The winner of the Patriot Bowl will move on to play in the MIAA semi-final game for Division 2A on Tuesday, Dec. 2, against the winner of the South Coast League (likely Apponequet). The winner of that game will move on to play at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, December 6 in the MIAA Division 2A Super Bowl. |
