| Golfers claim league title |

The boys’ golf team finished the regular season with a pair of impressive wins over Barnstable (239-248) and BC High (239-240) that will hopefully propel them toward another State title. Finishing with an overall record of 18-2, the Dragons took home the Patriot League crown with a 14-1 record that included Tuesday’s 200-222 win over Whitman-Hanson. Their lone league loss was a one-stroke defeat against Hingham (208-209). This is the third straight Keenan Division title for the boys, who played in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectionals yesterday at the Easton Country Club. The boys won the South Sectional in 2007 and were Division II State champions in 2006. A top-three finish will send the team to the State championships at the Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn next Monday starting at 9 a.m. Playing at home early in the week, Jonathan Stoddard led the Dragons over Whitman-Hanson with a round of 37 that included five pars and a pair of birdies. Teammates Kevin Kuckuk (39/5 pars/2 birdies) and Wes Barrington (39/4 pars/one birdie) were close behind, while Mark Tedeschi (42/4 pars/one birdie) and James Magner (43/3 pars) rounded out the Duxbury scoring. The team traveled to Barnstable on Wednesday for a tri-match with the Eagles and Red Raiders, hoping to get a feel for where they stand come tournament time. To say Coach Jack Stoddard was thrilled would be an understatement, as his team was led by senior captain Tedeschi’s round of 38 that included five pars and two birdies, while the quartet of Stoddard (5 pars), Phil Sciretta (5 pars), Billy Curley (2 pars/2 birdies), and Brayden Minahan (4 pars/one birdie) all carded rounds of 40. Barrington (41/4 pars/one birdie) was a stroke back of the pack at 41. It was certainly a challenge for the Dragons, as BC High’s Brad Cadigan (37), Eric Anderson (38), and Noah Walky (39) beat five of Duxbury’s six scores. It wasn’t as close versus Barnstable, as Jake Adams (38) was the only Red Raider golfer to crack 40. |
