Both Dragon cross-country teams tuned up for this past weekend’s Catholic Memorial Invitational by easily beating Rockland last Tuesday on the road in Patriot League action. The boys swept the top five spots and finished as a team in their 15-40 win over the Bulldogs, while Robin Rader took first in the girls’ race in 18:51, followed by Anne Steele (2nd), Lauren Bittrich (3rd), Maddie McKenzie (6th) and Casey Ducinski (7th) in a 19-36 win. On Saturday the boys’ and girls’ teams ran in Division II at the 49th Catholic Memorial Invitational 5K held at Franklin Park. The boys were paced by sophomore Jonathan McKinley’s 13th-place finish in 16:44 that led a Duxbury contingent that finished fifth out of 14 teams. Mark Brust (25/17:42), Greg Bray (33/18:05), Paul Dacey (42/18:31), Billy Jewell (43/18:40), Jason Angell (44/18:42) and John Hemingway (20:23) completed the Dragoon scoring. Senior Omar Aden from Charlestown won the race in 16:09. In the girls’ varsity race, Emily Jones from Bromfield led from start to finish in a time of 17:49, knocking a full minute of the previous record and easily beating second-place finisher Lindsay Walsh of Swampscott (19:00). Duxbury was lead by Liz Doherty (61/23:45), who finished ahead of teammates McKenzie (68/24:07), Ducinski (69/24:09), Amy Laputz (93/25:14), Annie Gates (110/26:47) and Emily Palestis (125/27:52), all of who contributed to the Lady Dragons’ 14th-place finish. Anne Lawrence of Newton South won the freshman girls’ 3K race in 12:23, while the Duxbury competitors were led by Julia Averna’s 52nd-place finish in 14:58.
