Coach Jack Stoddard was confident his team would take the second match after beating the Harbormen by three strokes earlier in the season on their South Shore Country Club course. But golf is a game of consistency, and last Thursday the Harbormen were more consistent scorers in a 208-209 upset win over Duxbury.

Phil Sciretta was the star of the day, as the Duxbury sophomore was by far the day’s low scorer, fashioning a round of 37 that included a pair of birdies and five pars.

But there was a marked drop-off after that, as Mark Tedeschi (41/5 pars), Jonathan Stoddard (42/3 pars), Kevin Kuckuk (43/5 pars), and Brayden Minahan (46/2 pars) completed the Duxbury rounds.

In the meantime, the Harbormen’s Kevin Granatino (40), Kevin Lally (41), Matt Chouinard (41), Rick Darst (43), and Andrew Sypek (43) combined for the one-stroke win.

Earlier in the week the Dragons knocked off Pembroke, 201-210, as the Titan’s Brandon Mederios shot a dazzling round 34, while Duxbury’s Wes Barrington was two strokes behind at 36 (6 pars/one birdie) on the Pembroke Country Club course.

Sciretta’s 38 (6 pars) got the match even when he bested Brandon Stuterman (40), but rounds of 42 by Stoddard (3 pars) and Kuckuk (4 pars) beat Matt Devine (46) and Jack Reader (48) that proved to be the difference. Tedeschi’s 43 matched up well with Kevin Plant’s 42.

It’s a busy week for Duxbury, as they play four straight days with three Patriot League matches and a non-league battle with Xaverian at home on Thursday afternoon.
