It’s only October 1 and the boys’ golf team has already qualified for postseason play.

Riding a 10-match winning streak, the Dragons are currently sporting a 10-1 record prior to this week’s action after winning four more matches, including a 239-253 revenge win over Sandwich.

Duxbury opened the season by dropping a 246-253 verdict to the Blue Knights on their freshly aerated Cape Cod course, and Coach Jack Stoddard vowed his team would have a much easier time with Sandwich once they came to the DYC course.

Stoddard knew what he was taking about, as senior Wes Barrington (38/6 pars/one birdie) and sophomore Kevin Kuckuk (39/5 pars/one birdie) led the Dragons to their eighth straight win.

Corey Patterson was the low man for Sandwich with a round of 39, but there wasn’t much behind him, as Duxbury’s Phil Sciretta, Mark Tedeschi, and Billy Curley all shot rounds of 40 that bested all the remaining Sandwich players. Brayden Minahan’s 42 rounded out the Dragon scoring.

Earlier in the week the Dragons showed depth with a 223-249 win over Quincy.

Stephan Krall (41/3 pars/one birdie) and Pat Murphy (41/4 pars/one birdie) were co-medalists for Duxbury, while Brian Barry (42/4 pars), Kuckuk (44/3 pars), and Curley (45/2 pars) contributed to the victory.

It was back to league action on Thursday in Rockland, where scoring was tallied differently. It mattered little to the Dragons, who wiped out the Bulldogs, 40-14.

Jonathan Stoddard was the star of the day, as the sophomore shot an even par round of 27 while accumulating a pair of birdies and five pars to beat Pete Menzo.

Tedeschi (4 pars/one birdie) and Minahan (6 pars) turned in rounds of 31 to win their matches easily, while Kuckuk (33/ 3 pars), Curley (34/3 pars), and Barrington (34/4 pars) finished off the scoring.

The Dragons had a real close call on Thursday afternoon on the DYC course when they edged North Quincy, 204-206.

NQ’s Peter Ealey shot a 3-under par round of 33 to get the Red Raiders rolling, but rounds of 43 by Sciretta and Stoddard were good enough at the back end to better NQ’s last two rounds of 46 and 47 that supplied the margin of victory.

The front end was taken care of by Tedeschi (38), along with scores of 41 by Kuckuk, Minahan, and Barrington.

“This team is loaded with depth,” said Stoddard. “When one player falters, another steps up. There is always pressure coming from teammates who are trying to crack the lineup. I’m getting the best efforts I can get from these kids right now.”

On Friday afternoon at 3:30, the Dragons have a chance to wrap up the Patriot League title when they entertain Hingham at DYC.
