After a tough sequence of four games (1-3) against the league’s iron, Coach John Tocci’s squad needed a breather with Middleboro and Randolph back-to-back.

Just 14 minutes into the contest junior midfielder Morgan Dwinell’s throw-in was redirected by junior captain Tommy Drummy to junior captain Dan Sangster, who fired on net. The shot came back out to the middle, where junior Steve Blout nailed his shot to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

Sangster would get another chance with less than seven minutes remaining in the half, as he picked up the ball in midfield and dribbled through a pair of Sachem defenders, faking out the goalkeeper and giving the hosts a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Sangster continued his assault on the Middleboro goal, as he opened the final half with his second goal of the game. Drummy found his fellow captain in the slot and fed him a perfect pass, putting the All-Star in position to step around a Middleboro defender and find the far corner for a 3-0 lead.

The team leaders combined once more in the 33rd minute, as Sangster chipped a pass to Drummy, who flipped it over his defender and fired a volley that hit the bottom of the crossbar and found the back of the net for the final tally.

The win came on the heels of a 3-1 loss to Hanover the previous day.

Thanks to Dan McManus, the Dragons averted falling behind early, as their goalkeeper managed several point-blank saves in the first 10 minutes that kept the game scoreless.

The Hanover assault finally subsided, with Duxbury breaking the ice in the 25th minute, as sophomore defender Zach Gino sent a ball over the Indian defense.

With Sangster zeroing in on net, he beat his defender and the Hanover netminder to the ball and gave the home team a 1-0 halftime lead.

It was a golden opportunity for the Dragon offense, as it would have few chances the rest of the way against a big, strong Indian defense that was winning most of the air battles.

Duxbury held its own for the first 18 minutes of the second half, but the visitors finally got the equalizer when they sent a diagonal pass across the field and slid their shot under a sprawling McManus.

Momentum was now clearly on Hanover’ s side, as a pressuring Indian defense stole the ball from a Duxbury defender and chipped a shot over the on-rushing McManus to grab a 2-1 lead just three minutes later.

Duxbury pressured hard to get the equalizer, but it backfired on the hosts when Hanover scored on a quick counter attack with approximately two minutes left in the game.

After battling Randolph to start the week, Duxbury now travels to Rockland on Thursday afternoon for a 2 p.m. match-up with the Bulldogs.
