Lady Dragons continue to crush their opponents

UP FOR GRABS: Midfielder Carly Donovan (#16) battles Silver Lake’s Kellie Gomes for a 50/50 ball during Thursday evening’s 4-0 win over the Lakers.

The Lady Dragons were sporting a 4-0 record prior to this week’s action, but on Monday night they hosted #2 ranked Whitman-Hanson, who had the ability to put that streak in jeopardy.

Duxbury wasted little time in showing the Lakers why they have out-scored opponents 19-1 in the first three games, as senior Liz Desmond scored in the first two minutes for a 1-0 lead.

It didn’t take long for Duxbury to make it 2-0, thanks to sophomore Hanna Dwinell, who nailed a shot at the 8:06 mark to temporarily discourage the Lakers.

Rather than fold its tent, the Lakers picked it up 10 minutes later, as captain Megan Morris came flying down the left wing and sent a shot past goaltender Emily Brock that just missed the far post.

Caitlin Burke got the next serious scoring bid for the Lady Dragons when her shot went just wide of the net with 12:05 to go in the half, but Dwinell didn’t miss her bid five minutes later and made it 3-0 to demoralize the Lakers.

LUCKY 13: Sophomore Emily Gallagher beats her Silver Lake defender to the ball.

Senior Stacia Boynton had a glittering chance to score in the opening minute of the second half, but her redirect slid past the right post.

At the 31:40 mark Burke didn’t waste this opportunity, as she hammered a low shot to left of a diving Taylor Grifa that found its way to the back of the net for the final score of the game.

“I love the way we started the game by scoring two goals,” said Coach Emerson Coleman. “We didn’t play to our potential in the first 20 minutes of our game with Scituate, so I told the kids that we are a much better team when we go strong for 80 minutes. Overall this was a great team effort and we got some goals from players we don’t expect them from.”
