The Lady Dragons started the week off strong with two wins on the road against Rockland (3-2) and Randolph (5-0), then kept their spirits up despite a 3-2 loss on Wednesday against Hingham.{sidebar id=4}

On Monday in Rockland, Emily Averna played Shelly Hascombe in the first singles spot and took the match, ending with scores of 6-2/6-4, while Micheala Dowd, playing second singles, struggled against Katie O’Brien and eventually dropped her match (6-7/2-6) after a close first set.  Jill Dubuisson, playing third singles against Steph Gordon, also dropped her match by identical 4-6 scores.

Jackie Enniss and Liza Thomas played well against Rockland’s Lea Damona and Colleen McPartlan in the first doubles spot (6-2/6-0), while Annie Gluskin and Jane Morgan stepped into the second doubles spot against Renee Cevr and Megan Pratt, winning the match 6-0/6-2.{sidebar id=1}

The girls played confident matches against Randolph on Tuesday with Becca Winans playing first singles against Vicky Ngugen.  Winans closed the match quickly with two scores of 6-0.  Averna, playing second singles against Laura Gallant closed her match 6-0/6-1, while Casey Reinhart, stepping up into the third singles spot, beat Randolph’s Jessica Charles 6-1/6-0. 

Enniss and Thomas played again as a strong team against Eva Wu and Tram Ngugen, winning the match 6-0/6-1. Cory Tucker and Erin Nelson played a strong match, not letting Randolph’s second doubles team of Nikki Lim and Maxine Rogeer win any games before ending the match at 6-0/6-0.

The girls showed a lot of team spirit heading into a tough match against Hingham on Wednesday. Spectators had an opportunity to watch great tennis and close doubles matches on the Duxbury courts. 

Winans played a tough match against Roberta Bergstein, but ultimately dropped the match 2-6/3-6, while Averna played Ali Lund and dropped her match at #2 singles, 3-6/0-6. 

Dowd stepped back into the third singles spot for the match and salvaged a singles win for Duxbury.

Thomas and Enniss played an exciting match in the first doubles spot, despite losing a three-set tiebreaker match against Kelly Collins and Kendall Hodgkins. The duo remained strong and persistent throughout, running for every tough ball through the match.   

Gluskin and Morgan returned to the second doubles spot and played a three-set match against the Harborwomen. The pair, after losing the first set by a 6-7 score, came back strong to win the second and third set (6-0/6-1).

The team needs to remain strong for the next two weeks, as matches against Silver Lake, Marshfield, and Scituate are critical if the Lady Dragons are to make post-season play.{sidebar id=6}
