After seven years and a lifetime record of 75-35-18, Skip Schneider’s talent and dedication to the sport he loves has been recognized.

Schneider, who grew up in Duxbury and went to Duxbury High School, has been the head girls’ varsity soccer coach at Thayer Academy in Braintree since 2001. This year he was named the Private/Parochial 2007 State Girls’ Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and ADIDAS.{sidebar id=4}

“This was a really nice honor. I was surprised by the award, but I had a great team this year,” said Schneider.

“They worked hard and were incredibly dedicated. A coach couldn’t ask for anything more, and this was one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever coached. It paid off for them.”{sidebar id=1}

Schneider’s team (15-3-2) advanced to the NEPSAC finals this year for the 4th time since 2000, but lost a 2-1 heart breaker to Rivers.

Thayer AD Matt McGuirk said, “This award reiterates the great job that Skip does mentoring our varsity girls on the soccer field year in and year out. We’re extremely proud of him and the team.”{sidebar id=6}
