After barely losing to Barnstable, and shutting out Silver Lake the day before, the Lady Dragons are showing they may be a force to reckon with come playoff time.

Playing without regulars Briana Connolly and Colleen O’Connor, Coach Jack Stoddard got huge wins from junior Sophia Campanelli and sophomore Kendall Johnson

Campanelli won her match, 2 and 1 over Alexa Williams at #5, while Johnson took care of Morgan McKenzie, 2-up, playing the #6 slot.

Senior co-captain Jen Geary lost to D-Y’s Caitlin Sharples, 3 and 2, at #1 and co-captain Meg Wyrtzen halved her match against Meg Morgan, who was the Dolphin’s #1 player last year.{sidebar id=1}

Junior Emma Keller became the first Duxbury winner when she took care of Casandra Santos at #3 with a 4 and 3 win putting the match even at 1.5-1.5.

Being at home may have helped the Lady Dragons, especially after they fell behind 2.5-1.5 when Maria Varonko lost to Jen Cameron, 2 and 1, at #4.

It was now up to Campanelli and Johnson, who saved the day for Duxbury, and sent them into the break with a winning record.

On Tuesday the girls had a much easier time with the Lakers, as Geary, Wyrtzen, Keller, and Connolly all won their matches 4 and 3, while Varonko and Campanelli took their opponents by 3 and 2 scores.

When the girls return from spring break they’ll travel to Nauset on Monday, and entertain Falmouth on Wednesday, as they prepare for the MIAA State Individual Championships at the Woodland Country Club in Newton.{sidebar id=6}
