Duxbury sisters Alexis, Sara and Marie Schupp recently competed at the
Massachusetts State Gymnastics competitions where all three girls had
outstanding meets that qualified them for the USA Gymnastics Regional
competitions. Representing the New England Sports Academy located in
Westwood MA, the Schupps are coached by Pete Degenhardt, Megan Kohan,
and Janie Murakovskaya
Alexis, a 16-year old, is a Level-10 gymnast; the highest level of USA gymnastics with the exception of the very few gymnasts who compete at the elite level. At the Mass State Level-10 meet that was held on April 5, Alexis placed sixth in the All-Around competition with a score of 35.95. She was also part of NESA’s Level-10 team that finished third in the team competition. Level 9 & 10 gymnasts must score a 34.00 AA at States to be eligible to qualify for the Regionals that will be held this weekend.{sidebar id=4} Level-8 gymnasts, Sara (13) and Marie (11), both placed second in their respective age groups in the All-Around competition at the Massachusetts State meet that was held April 12. This easily qualified them for the Regionals that will be held on May 3 &4. Level- 8 Regional qualification is based strictly on AA placement. The top seven gymnasts, regardless of age group, make up the Massachusetts State Teams. The eighth-place athlete is the alternate gymnast on the team.{sidebar id=6} |
