It’s spring vacation week for the DHS boys’ tennis team, and after watching last week’s action it appears Coach John Bunar’s squad got an extra week off. With a pair of 5-0 blankings of Silver Lake and Hanover, Duxbury moved its record to 4-1 overall, and 3-1 in Patriot League action.
It’s spring vacation week for the DHS boys’ tennis team, and after watching last week’s action it appears Coach John Bunar’s squad got an extra week off.{sidebar id=4} With a pair of 5-0 blankings of Silver Lake and Hanover, Duxbury moved its record to 4-1 overall, and 3-1 in Patriot League action. Freshman Brayden Minihan and senior Dan Pannell hardly broke a sweat at #1 and #2 singles, as both players cruised to 6-0/6-0 wins over the Lakers, while TJ Cameron debuted at #3 singles and took a 6-3/6-1 win over Vinny Gillespie. Bunar sent out two new doubles pairings against Silver Lake and they hardly skipped a beat, as sophomores Stephan Day and Peter Tenaglia bested Nick Gravel and Ryan Ganey, 6-3/6-3. Not to be outdone, the senior duo of Matt Pierce and Evan Spolidoro took care of Vic Holt and Steve McNulty, 6-3/6-1. It didn’t get any harder against Hanover, as the Dragons dispatched the Indians on their home court. Minihan needed plenty of patience against John Avitable at #1 singles before winning his match, 6-4/6-2, while Pannell had an easier time with a 6-1/6-3 victory over Rick Flynn.{sidebar id=1} TJ Scholberg got himself in a hole early in the first set, but recovered in time to win 7-6 (5). He had a much easier time with a 6-2 over Chris Gill in the second set.

Captains Stefan Seman and Kevin Scott returned at #1 doubles and managed a 6-3/6-2 win over Jake Plumber and James Dunphy, while junior Connor Dunphy senior James Rich dominated their opponent at #2 doubles with a 6-1/6-0 win. “I thought the only position we played up to our potential today was in second doubles, “ said Bunar. “They were on their game from the get go.” When the team returns from spring break, they’ll have their hands full, as they will play four matches in five days.{sidebar id=6} |
