Boys Tennis Splits a Pair

The week went as expected for Coach John Bunar and his boys’ tennis team, as they started with a 5-0 loss to Hingham, then came back with a 4-1 victory over Scituate.

“We won the match we were supposed to win and couldn’t pull off the upset against Hingham,” said a realistic Bunar. {sidebar id=4}

Freshman Brayden Minihan made his debut at #1 singles in the Hingham match, and he couldn’t have drawn a tougher opponent than Alex Chin, one of the South Shore’s premier players. Minihan did a great job staying close in the first set before losing 6-4, but it took its toll on the rookie as he dropped the second set, 6-0.

The Harbormen continued the sweep when Chandler Semjan knocked off Dan Pannell, 6-3/6-2 at #2 singles and Sanjay Raw had an easy time with TJ Scholberg, 6-1/6-0.

Kevin Scott and Stefan Seman had Duxbury’s best chance at victory when they lost a tough three-setter at #1 doubles to Hingham juniors Ryan Johnson and John Ripple, 4-6/7-6 (5)/ 2-6.{sidebar id=1}

Connor Dunphy and James Rich took the loss at #2 doubles, 1-6/3-6.

It got a lot easier two days later when the Dragons knocked off Scituate, 4-1.

Minihan, who will feel the heat every time out at #1 singles, lost to the Sailor’s Chris Nelson, 6-4/6-0, while Pannell took the #2 singles match with a 6-4/6-2 win over junior Chris Parker

Scholberg managed to take home a 6-4/6-2 win over sophomore Josh Killion at #3 singles.

Scott and Seman barely broke a sweat at #1 doubles with a 6-0/6-0 blanking, followed by 6-1/6-3 win at #2 doubles for Rich and Dunphy over Cody Farrell and Can Chamberlain.

Now sporting a 2-1 record, the Dragons will take on Silver Lake this afternoon at home at 3:30, and then hit the road for an away game with Hanover on Thursday at 3:30.{sidebar id=6}
