Michael Connolly, Katie Egan and Michaela Morris, Duxbury residents on the Weymouth Waves swim team, were pleased with their performance at the New England Swimming Regional Meet at Salem State College last month. Each hoped to qualify for a few more events at the New England 12 & Under Championship. Egan made personal bests in all events and placed 6th (1:13.83) and 10th in the 100 and 200-yd. backstroke, respectively and 8th (1:25.12) and 9th in the 100 and 50-yd. breaststroke. Morris took a first (32.68) in the 50-yd. backstroke, carving off a second to qualify for the Championships. She also earned two seconds and personal bests in the 200-yd. individual medley (2:34.18) and 500-yd. freestyle (6:11.87) and pared off three seconds to place eighth in the 200-yd. freestyle. Pandemonium rose as the girls joined teammates Ryan and Maniscalco to take second in the 200-yd. freestyle relay and third in the 200-yd. medley relay.{sidebar id=1}
Michael Connolly lopped off more than seven seconds from his 400-yd. individual medley (5:17.73) and took fourth. He also achieved personal bests and placed sixth seventh and eighth in the 100-yd. butterfly (1:09.50), 100-yd. freestyle (58.40), and 200-yd. individual medley (2:27.84), respectively. Best times were again earned in the 50-yd. freestyle, 200-yd. freestyle and 100-yd. backstroke, as he took 10th, 12th, and 17th, respectively. He also sliced two seconds off his time to place 13th in the 100-yd. breaststroke and joined teammates in the 200-yd. medley to seize third.{sidebar id=6}
