The Rec. Dept. will hold registration on March 3 – March 15, Mon.
through Fri. from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. only. There will also be a Thursday
night registration on March 6 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a Saturday
registration on March 15 from 9-11 a.m. Checks only; cash will not be
accepted. Make checks payable to “Town of Duxbury.”

Make checks payable to “Town of Duxbury.”{sidebar id=4} There will be a non-refundable $10 late fee charged for all registrations taken after March 15. Late registrations accepted only if there is space in the program. All registrations will be taken at the Recreation office in the Girl Scout House. Soccer. Spring soccer will be available for boys and girls in grades one and two only. This is an eight-week program starting April 27 which takes place on Sunday afternoons at Keene St. soccer field. This program operates only with the help of volunteer coaches. There will be a coaches meeting on Wed, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Girl Scout House. Fee for this program is $50. Easter Egg Hunt. In conjunction with the Duxbury Girl Scouts, the Rec. Dept. offers an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages toddler through second grade. This event takes place on Saturday, March 22 at the Keene St. playground at 10 a.m. promptly. (Don’t be late). This program is for Duxbury residents only. There is no rain date for this program. There is no fee. Over 21 Basketball. A pick up style basketball program will be available on Wednesday evenings, beginning March 19 and ending June 18 from 7-9 p.m. for Duxbury residents 21 and over. The program takes place at the Duxbury High School gym. There is no fee or pre-registration for this program. Adult Tennis. A Spring tennis program will be offered to Duxbury adults who are at the beginner, advanced beginner, or intermediate levels. This four-week program begins the week of May 8. Lessons are held twice a week during the morning hours at the Alden tennis courts (behind the Duxbury Library.) Fee is $75. Kite Flying Day. The Recreation Dept. will sponsor a Kite Flying Day at Duxbury Beach on Saturday, May 10 from 1-3 p.m. Just bring a kite! There will be no rain date. There is no fee or pre-registration for this program.{sidebar id=1} Co-ed Karate Kids. This four-week program is for boys and girls in grades K-5 beginning April 1 - April 10 and will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:20 p.m. at the Whidden’s School of Fitness in Marshfield. These intro classes consist of yoga core strengthening and stretching exercises, aerobic whole-body movements, and basic self protection skills. Continued study is possible at completion of the course. Instructor is Roger Whidden, Black Belt in Karate, B.S. in Exercise Science, M.A. in Education and Counseling, and Tai Chi Fighting World Champion. (Uniform required, purchase at WSF for $30). Fee for this program is $45. Adult Yoga. This four-week program for adults beginning April 2 and ending April 23 takes place at the Whidden’s School of Fitness in Marshfield. Classes take place on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-10:30 a.m. or Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. Classes consist of warm-up movements and gentle stretches, Hatha yoga postures, breathing techniques and guided relaxation. Instructor is Mary Whidden, who has been teaching in the health and fitness field since 1978. Mary has a B.S. in Physical Education, is a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, AFFA certified fitness instructor and personal trainer and asst. karate teacher. Fee for this class program is $45. Track. A track program will be offered to boys and girls, grades five through eight, beginning on May 6 and ending June 12. This six-week program will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour immediately after school. Fee is $60. Cooking for Kids. This program will be offered once again for the Spring season for children ages 7-12. Classes take place on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Girl Scout House. There will be two sessions offered: Session I: March 18 through April 29. Session II: May 13 through June 17. Class is limited to 12 students per class. Fee is $85. Power Yoga (geared to men, women welcome). This new program takes place on Thursdays beginning April 3 and continuing until April 24 from 7-8 p.m. at the Whidden’s School of Fitness in Marshfield. The class consists of core strengthening, stretching and movements oriented toward Martial Arts and athletic performance enhancement. Instructor is Roger Whidden. Fee is $45. Basketball League. Our popular winter basketball program is now being offered for the spring season for boys and girls grades 9 through 12. The program will be held on Thursday at DMS beginning May 1 and continuing until June 19. Fee is $65. Vacation Acting Workshop. This program is available to children ages 6-15. This workshop will be conducted by the South Shore School of Performing Arts in which participants will receive acting instruction and direction during an intense seven-hour day workshop, finishing the week with a full-scale production of High School Musical 2. The program will be held April 22-25 at the Duxbury High School Auditorium. Fee for this program is $160. Core Conditioning. This is a 4-week program for grades 9 through adult. Classes begin on April 3 and run through April 24, taking place on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. This class consist of core strengthening, stretching and movements following Yoga and Taiji principles. Classes are held at Whidden’s School of Fitness, Marshfield. Fee for this program is $45. Qi Gong: This is a 4-week program on Saturday mornings from 9:40-10:10a.m., running from April 5 through April 26. Classes are designed especially for elders and those interested in regaining their health and vitality by gentle movement meditation. Classes are held at the Whidden’s School of Fitness, Marshfield.
