The Duxbury High School girls’ soccer team finished the second half of its regular season schedule with a 3-5-1 record in its last nine games; a sign that an early exit in post-season play was a strong possibility.

In the good old days Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game between Duxbury and Marshfield would have been for the league title. But with the league champion Rams (9-1) now playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the Dragons waltzing through the Patriot League undefeated at 10-0 after winning the inaugural Patriot Bowl (47-13), the Turkey Day battle boils down to bragging rights on the South Shore.

Senior Stacia Boynton scored with 10 seconds left in regulation to give the DHS girls' soccer team a 3-2 victory over Belmont on Wednesday night at Cawley Stadium in Lowell.

Tornado warnings were issued at the conclusion of Saturday night’s Patriot Bowl win by the Dragons, but they might as well have been issued prior to the game so Hanover could have sought refuge.

Registration for the 2009 Bay State Winter Games is now open, as the annual Olympic-style amateur sporting event celebrates its 24th year in Northern Berkshire County. From Friday, Feb. 6 to Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, individual competitions in Alpine Skiing and Figure Skating, and team competition in Masters Ice Hockey will take place.

Finishing its Duxbury Youth Football career in style, the 8th-grade Midget team defeated the Hull Pirates, 24-14, to win the Old Colony League Division 4 Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon. The game ends a spectacular run, as this team lost only one game in the past four seasons.

The Duxbury Recreation Department will hold its 33rd Annual Turkey Trot 4.3 mile Road Race on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Duxbury Middle School. Registration begins at 9am, and the race starts at 10. The fee is $10. Please bring a canned good and/or non-perishable item for the local food bank. |
