Duxbury High School Varsity Football Coach Dave Maimaron invites all children grades 2-8 to participate in a youth football clinic on Wednesday, July 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the high school practice field, which is located above the varsity field.  Members of the coaching staff along with players from the 2008 Super Bowl champion team will provide instruction on both offensive and defensive drills in a safe and age appropriate environment. Last weekend the Duxbury Bay Maritime School hosted the 2009 Duxbury Bay Junior 420 Regatta—the first major sailing event to be staged from DBMS’s spectacular new waterfront facility.  This two day regatta on Duxbury Bay included 23 boats from yacht clubs and schools all throughout Massachusetts.  Despite less than perfect weather all races were sailed and the event was deemed a success by all involved.  

Dave Caso and his crew aboard his Cherubini 44, Silhouette, have again won their class in the grueling Marion Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race contested between June 19 and June 25.

The temperature was only in the mid 70s on June 7, but that didn’t stop Duxbury resident Marissa Fitcher from jumping in the water at Nantasket Beach to compete in the 10th annual New England Longboard Classic Surf Contest.

Legion baseball is back in town after a one-year hiatus, and appears to have a solid team for the 2009 season with Pembroke’s Ryan Kane managing and General Manager Peter Bizinkauskas running the organization.

“We always believe we can do it, but it’s hard to believe it’s six in a row,” said the surprised Duxbury coach after his team beat St. John’s Prep, 13-12, on Wednesday night at Harvard Stadium. “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. But it never gets old. It’s a new group every year, but no Duxbury group has ever worked as hard as this one. They earned it and I’m extremely proud of them.”

It couldn’t have been set up any nicer for the Lady Dragons.

A Hingham win over top seeded Martha’s Vineyard and Norwell’s win over third seeded Mansfield had Duxbury in the perfect position to advance for a shot at its second MIAA Division II lacrosse title.

A funny thing happened to the DHS boys’ tennis team last Friday. They started their semifinal match with archrival Hingham on the courts at Norwell High School, and finished it a couple of hours later at the Weymouth Tennis Club.

It was a game for either team to win. But if you’re a betting man, let’s hope your money was on the Dragons.

The Dragons finished the second leg of their quest to regain their sixth consecutive Division I State lacrosse championship when they knocked off Xaverian, 10-7, at Taylor Field on Wednesday afternoon in Duxbury.

It couldn’t have been set up any nicer for the Lady Dragons.
