The pre-game scuttlebutt was that the game wouldn’t be much of a battle, and apparently everyone knew what they were talking about. Scoring on their first offensive play of the night, the Dragons scored at will the rest of the evening, as they manhandled Middleboro 55-21, to run their record to 9-0. A win next week against Hingham will send the Dragons to the MIAA Div. II A playoffs against the winner of the Atlantic Coast Conference. |

The game had all the excitement of a playoff game, as the winner gained a leg up on the race for a playoff berth. But by night’s end it was the Duxbury Dragons who were in complete control of their post-season destiny. Facing Silver Lake in what appeared to be a game that could well determine the Keenan Division champ in the Patriot League standings; the Dragons took away a hard-fought 14-3 win over the Lakers on Homecoming Night in Duxbury last Friday night. |

The Lady Dragons field hockey team saw its 17-game unbeaten streak come to a halt on Friday afternoon when it lost to Marshfield, 2-0, in the regular season finale. While the loss was disheartening for many of the players, it made little difference in the standings, as Duxbury had already wrapped up the Patriot League title, and is destined to be the No. 2 seed in the MIAA tournament behind perennial powerhouse Walpole. |

Another non-league victory by the Dragons has them at 7-0 after last Friday night’s 36-21 win over the North Quincy Red Raiders at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Quincy. It was the coldest night of the year for any Dragons’ game and that may have contributed to Duxbury’s occasional sloppy play throughout the evening. |

They say defending a title is harder than winning one. Jack Stoddard and his DHS boys’ golf team got that chance Tuesday after the Clipper had gone to press. Led by Jonathan Stoddard’s 74, the Dragons coasted to a 9-shot win over Dennis-Yarmouth to capture the Division II South Sectional championship last Wednesday at the Marshfield Country Club. Both schools qualified to advance to Tuesday’s state championship at the Pocasset Golf Club in Bourne. |

The Duxbury High School boys’ golf team will begin defense of its Division II state title starting Wednesday morning when it takes to the fairways of the Marshfield Country Club in the Division II South Sectionals. After having their 14-match win streak broken by Hanover, the Dragons continued their slide with losses to Hingham (244-253) and BC High (229-235), before righting the ship with a pair of wins over Barnstable (233-236) and Sandwich (233-248). James Magner led a strong Duxbury showing against Barnstable with a round of 37 that included two birdies and four pars, while Jonathan Stoddard (a birdie per 5 pars), Cam Daley (a birdie per 6 pars), and Curtis Owen (a birdie/5 pars) were a stroke behind at 38. Kevin Kuckuk (39) and Stephan Krall rounded out the Dragon scoring, while Curtis Collopy shot a 37 for the Red Raiders and Dan Cowick’s 36 took medalist honors for Sandwich. |
