Elspeth Kelley Laird and Travis Mitchell Allen were wed on Oct. 15, 2011 on the lawn overlooking Duxbury Bay where Ellie’s late grandmother, Louise Kelley wed her grandfather Eric Pape in 1947. The daughter of Craig Laird and Heidi Pape Laird of Duxbury, Ellie studied French literature and received her bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and her master’s degree from Bryn Mawr University in 2004. She is a French teacher at Oak Hill School in Eugene, Ore. The son of Chris and Sheri Allen, Travis graduated from University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and is now a Ranger for the National Park Service. The Rev. Joseph Headen Laird officiated at his granddaughter’s wedding as he did for Ellie’s parents on the same spot in 1972. The sister of the bride, Holly Laird of Duxbury, was maid of honor. Ellie and Travis met while backpacking through Southeast Asia in the fall of 2006 and plan to begin married life by applying to the Peace Corps. |
