Allan Ayers Eaton, 90

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 09:00 AM

Allan Ayers Eaton, a Duxbury resident for 53 years, died peacefully at Geer Village in Canaan, Conn. on Thursday, June 28, 2012.  He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

Mr. Eaton grew up in Brockton, the third of six children of the late Margaret Ayers Eaton and Louis Franklin Eaton. He was an alumnus of Amherst College and also received a degree from M.I.T.  During World War II, he served as a pilot in the Army Air Force.

For many years, Mr. Eaton owned a construction business, Eaton & Associates, which operated throughout southeastern Massachusetts.  Later he worked as the building engineer for Brockton Public Markets/Shaw’s Supermarket, Inc.  He was an active member of Pilgrim Congregational Church, and served on the building committee for the Duxbury Junior/Senior High School.  During retirement he volunteered his expertise during the renovations of the Duxbury Yacht Club’s Sprague-Parker Clubhouse and the Ellison Center for the Arts.

Mr. Eaton loved to sail in Duxbury Bay and with friends along the Maine coast, off Cape Cod and throughout the Caribbean.  His other interests included spending time with family and friends, skiing, reading, music, town politics, and, in later years, gardening and travelling.

Known for his kindness, quiet sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye, Mr. Eaton will be missed by many who knew him.  He leaves his daughters, Rebecca and Daryl Eaton; granddaughter Rachel Pradilla; son-in-law Charles Pradilla; sisters Mary Abigail Mott and Margaret Koerner; brother David Eaton; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend Elsie Chadwick. Mr. Eaton was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Virginia Cooke Eaton, a second wife, Marilyn Boylan Eaton, his son Allan Jr. and two brothers, Robert and Louis Eaton.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Duxbury Senior Center, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at 1 p.m. Condolences may be sent to Rebecca and Daryl Eaton, PO Box 715, Norfolk, CT 06058.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Eaton’s memory may be made to Jordan Hospital, Philanthropy Office, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360, or to an organization of your choice.
